December 23nd - Japanese Day

Here are Stan and Ollie in their Japanese costumes, and this 'dragon boat' is hanging on our tree.

This morning for breakfast we had Maple Nut Fritatta.

Then we went for a walk. We started at OMSI, walked west across the Hawthorne Bridge, and all along the west side of the Willamette waterfront to the Japanese American Memorial.

The cherry trees along the walkway in the distance are very beautiful in the spring.

Then we walked back across the Steel Bridge - the pedestrian walkway is on the lower level, with the trains - and back along the east bank to OMSI. We think it was about a 3.5 mile hike.

When we got back home we made and ate Japanese Soba Noodles - a spicy stir fry with onion, red bell pepper, greens, and soba noodles. Quite yummy!

And Mandarin oranges for dessert.

Then Japanese Day broke down a bit, since we had to get all Scottished up to go and play a gig at Skamania Lodge with the Skamania Pipes and Drums. We were gone for several hours, but when we got home, we had sake in the hot tub (our version of a Japanese soaking tub), and enjoyed our outdoor lights. It was a lovely, relaxing way to end the day.
